چکیده

The spectral vanishing viscosity (SVV) method has recently appeared of interest for the large-eddy simulation (LES) of turbulent flows. Here we show that the SVV-LES approach allows to easily compute turbulent quantities, like the dissipation rates of the turbulent kinetic energy or of the variance of a passive scalar and to clearly discern the subgrid and viscous contributions. Results obtained for the turbulent wake of a cylinder in a weakly stratified fluid are provided.

Spectral vanishing viscosity method for LES: sensitivity to the SVV control parameters

Where spectral methods are concerned, the spectral vanishing viscosity (SVV) method offers an interesting way of computing high Reynolds number flows since it allows stabilization of the calculations whilst preserving the exponential rate of convergence of the spectral approximation. Here we first show how to implement the SVV method in an existing Navier–Stokes solver and then investigate the ...

Computer Methods in Applied Mechanics and Engineering 80 (1990) 197-208 North-holland Shock Capturing by the Spectral Viscosity Method*

A main disadvantage of using spectral methods for nonlinear conservation laws lies in the formation of Gibbs phenomenon, once spontaneous shock discontinuities appear in the solution. The global nature of spectral methods then pollutes the unstable Gibbs oscillations over all the computational domain, and the lack of entropy dissipation prevents convergences in these cases. In this paper, we di...

A spectral vanishing viscosity for the LES of turbulent flows within rotating cavities

A spectral vanishing viscosity technique (SVV) is presented for the simulation of 3D turbulent incompressible flows within a rotor–stator cavity. One characteristic of this technique is that the SVV is active only for the short length scales, a feature which is reminiscent of Large Eddy Simulation models. The Spectral Vanishing Viscosity, first introduced by E. Tadmor for the inviscid Burgers e...

Entropy Generation of Variable Viscosity and Thermal Radiation on Magneto Nanofluid Flow with Dusty Fluid

The present work illustrates the variable viscosity of dust nanofluid runs over a permeable stretched sheet with thermal radiation. The problem has been modelled mathematically introducing the mixed convective condition and magnetic effect. Additionally analysis of entropy generation and Bejan number provides the fine points of the flow. The of model equations are transformed into non-linear or...

Parallel Implementation of Numerical Dissipation Rate and Viscosity Post-processing in Computational Fluid Dynamics

In simulations of Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), the numerical dissipation generated from discretization of governing equations can rarely be ignored. Estimating numerical dissipation rate and numerical viscosity is not only pressing for subgrid scale (SGS) modelling in Large Eddy Simulations (LES) and low order methods such as Finite Volume Method (FVM) in commerical codes, but also helpf...
